A garden is a wonderful metaphor for life. Come visit my garden where you may find occasional bugs, droughts, and floods, but there is also planting, nourishing, nurturing, and growth. I hope you find, as I have, some of the most beautiful creations blooming here.

Chickens, Chickens Everywhere Unless You're Snorkeling

We tried several different beaches, trying to find the best snorkel spots.  I wish I had some pictures of what we saw.  Especially at Poipu Beach.  I can't believe how many different varieties of vividly colored, gorgeous fish were in one small area!  Joe saw two sea turtles snorkeling at Poipu as well.

Chickens are everywhere.  Apparently they were first introduced for cock fighting.  Hurricane Iniki let them all loose in 1992 and since then they have bred with the local jungle fowl.  Since there are no mongoose (mongeese? mongooses?) on the island, they have no natural predators except a car, which isn't really natural, I guess.

When we went to Kauai in 1995, I couldn't believe all the chickens everywhere! So they're still around, huh?

Are there mongooses everywhere else that there are chickens? Oh and I checked, it is mongooses for plural. Very rarely mongeese. Although that sounds more natural, doesn't it?
