A garden is a wonderful metaphor for life. Come visit my garden where you may find occasional bugs, droughts, and floods, but there is also planting, nourishing, nurturing, and growth. I hope you find, as I have, some of the most beautiful creations blooming here.

Kayaking on the Wailua River

Our guide was pretty laid back and allowed us to go at our own pace instead of requiring us to stay with the pack.  I appreciated that!
We hiked a mile to the Secret Waterfall (which isn't a secret because they do daily tours here).  Apparently, back in the day, the Wailua River and waterfall were to be used by royalty only.  Anyone else would be dead.
I didn't feel an aching need to swim under this waterfall since I had already done something similar on this trip (and still remembered the cold!).

Various spots around the island, these little pools included, were considered sacred.  Locals would pay tribute to their ancestors or dead loved ones by placing offerings of flowers on deliberately arranged stones.
I got to swing on a real vine!  I had to climb a tree to get to it.  I'd have to say this was another highlight of the entire vacation.
Coming nose to nose with a banana spider was not the most exciting part of the vacation.  I almost ran into it before I saw it.  Then, of course, I had to take a picture of it.

Ignore the thumb in the picture.  There were hibiscus flowers all along the two mile stretch of river.  Our guide told us that these flowers turn red as they age.
Aaaaand you can all breathe a sigh of relief that I am done making you relive Kauai with me.

The only sigh of relief I am breathing is that you (hopefully) won't be posting any more spider pictures! I've loved your Hawaii posts. I'm so glad that you had a wonderful time!

I loved all of your Hawaii pictures too. You seem like a really fun person to travel with. Maybe we will get to do that someday? Glad you made some good memories and that you were able to celebrate 10 years with your shmoopsie.
